Prayer
Prayer is central to the life of St Paul's since it is a vital opportunity to raise our hearts and minds to God. Each morning begins with an assembly and the Angelus is said at 12noon. All students are on a rota to attend Mass in the Chapel on a Tuesday morning and are expected to attend Mass on Holy Days of Obligation since 'the Eucharist is the sum and summary of our faith' (CCC1327). Our Chaplain is available to hear Confession throughout the year and many other activities are organised to support the spiritual life of our school by the Chaplaincy Team.
Our Lady has a very special place in our school. She is the perfect example of faith and holiness. We pray to her often and will say the Rosary particularly in October and May. There is a grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes outside the Sister Suite. In school, we will say prayers such as the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Creed, and Eternal Rest. We also often say other prayers including those below:
School Morning Offering
Bless us O Heavenly Father, and give us the grace to pass this day without offending Thee.
Amen.
The Angelus
The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary: And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen
Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary...
And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary...
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.
Amen.
Memorare
Remember, O Most Loving Virgin Mary, that it is a thing unheard of that anyone ever had recourse to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, and was left forsaken. Filled therefore with confidence in your goodness I fly to you O Mother, Virgin of virgins. To you I come, before you I stand a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my poor words, O Mother of the Word of God, but graciously hear and grant my prayer.
Amen.
Prayer Before Meals
Bless O Lord, and these Your gifts, which we are about to receive from Your bounty.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Vocations Prayer
Lord, make me a better person more considerate towards others, more honest with myself, and faithful to You. Make me generous enough to want sincerely to do Your will whatever it may be. Help me to find my true vocation in life, and grant that through it I may find happiness myself and bring happiness to others.
Amen.
Birthday Prayer
As a special birthday gift for friends say this prayer for them:
Heavenly Father, please bless (name),
for today is (her) birthday.
Dear Lord, please protect and guide (name) as she
continues along the path you have chosen for her.
Give her the courage to follow in your light,
and feel your love wherever she goes.
Make her strong and give her the strength
to make good decisions in the coming year.
Keep her free from illness and sadness,
And bless her with happiness and success in all aspects of life.
Bless (name) now on this day, and in the future.
Amen.
Prayer to the Guardian Angel
Angel of God
My guardian dear
To Whom His love
Commits me here
Ever this day
Be at my side
To light and guard
To rule and guide.
Amen
